MOLTEN Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 champions Brimsdown Rovers ended their league campaign in style with a 4-1 win at second-placed Ampthill Town.

Rovers settled quickly and the result was never in doubt as they opened up a 3-1 half-time lead.

Ampthill opened the scoring but then wilted in the heat, and after a barrage of attacks, Rovers levelled on the half hour when Aaron Scott neatly slotted home.

In-form Tansel Tezel made it 2-1 when he applied the finishing touch to a 20-pass move, and he followed that up with a cracking solo effort where he beat three defenders before finishing well.

Ashley Taylor-Forbes completed the rout after coming on as a substitute 20 minutes into the second half.

Manager Gordon Boateng said: "Our young side has really proved themselves over the season.

"Now we have just to complete the treble, the championship, promotion and victory over Stoney Stratford, in the League Cup final on Saturday, to make it a truly glorious end to the season."

Enfield Town were playing host to AFC Sudbury as the Independent went to press, in a bid to reach the final of the Ryman Division 1 North play-offs.

The winners will travel to Harlow Town on Saturday for a place in the Ryman Premier Division.

Town sealed third place in the league with a 5-0 hammering of basement side Flackwell Heath last weekend.

Dean Nyman opened the scoring early on. But Town were then kept out by some excellent goalkeeping before Ricci Crace doubled their advantage on 62 minutes.

That sparked a goal fest, with Rudi Hall applying the finishing touches to Bryan Hammatt's pass, before Hammatt got on the scoresheet himself.

Hall rounded things off two minutes from time when he netted from the spot after Matt Negus was brought down in the area.

Enfield FC ended their season on a high with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Canvey Town. The result also dashed the Essex visitors' lingering play-off hopes.

Canvey had their chances but were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal when Neil Hughes picked up a superb through ball from Tony Hazell and fired home the only goal of the match just before the half-time interval.

l Kelly Townshend led the scoring with five goals as Enfield Town Ladies hammered already-relegated Norwich City Canaries 9-0 in the South East Combination League.

Canaries arrived with only nine players but still put in a spirited performance against a rampant Enfield side, who moved up to eighth in the table.

Holly Wilson netted a first-half hat-trick with Townshend scoring twice and Emma Kayser firing in from the spot to make it 6-0 at the break.

And Townshend netted three more times in the second period to secure the Enfield supporters' player-of-the-match award.

This Sunday Enfield are at home to second-placed Rushden & Diamonds (3pm).
