TWO volunteers were celebrated at the Cats Protection’s Isle of Wight Adoption Centre, for a combined total of more than 45 years of voluntary service.

Rosemary Stephenson and Lynne Young were presented with commemorative cat statues for their dedication to the charity, at an afternoon tea held at the centre on Marlborough Road.

Lynne received a prestigious Murphy Award for more than 30 years of helping local cats and kittens.

Rosemary received a bronze duo of kittens, celebrating 15 years of volunteering.

Mel Read, manager, said: "I have been astounded by the contribution Rosemary and Lynne have given to Isle of Wight Adoption Centre, helping thousands of cats across the Island.

"We hope the statues serve as a permanent reminder of our gratitude."

Lynne said: "Helping so many felines over the years has been so rewarding — I’ve made life-long friends and would urge anyone who loves animals to come and see us."

Emma Duffield is the volunteer team leader, supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
