A CURFEW needed to be explained to a man sentenced for assault and possession of cannabis — in terms of its relation to when Hollyoaks is on.
Richard Hall, 25, admitted common assault on November 20 when he appeared at the IW Crown Court.
On being sentenced to a curfew, Hall asked the judge about the start time, enquiring: "Is that before or after The Simpsons? or Hollyoaks?"
After a discussion among themselves, the defence, Graham Gilbert, and prosecutor, Rose Burns, confirmed: "Yes, your curfew comes after Hollyoaks."
The court heard that Hall, of West Street, Ryde, and a friend got into an argument with a taxi driver and Hall attempted to throw a bottle at the driver's head.
The driver clearly overheard them planning to meet two females on St Thomas' Street to sell them cannabis.
Ms Burns said: "The taxi driver told them to leave it, asking for the £10 that had been initially agreed upon.
"One of the males said he was going to headbutt him and one went to elbow him, before Hall threw a bottle of vodka at him but missed."
Hall had previously been given a two-year suspended sentence in 2017 for possession of cannabis.
He avoided enacting his suspended sentence, but was handed a curfew from 8pm to 6am, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
