EMERGENCY services were called to the cliffs off Shanklin Esplanade following a landslip this morning (Wednesday).

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire Service were called to assist the UK Coastguard as they checked to ensure the landslip caused no damage.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to assist the Coastguard after a small section of the cliff face fell to the ground.

"The Coastguard called us as a precaution and after a routine check we found that there has been no damage."

Update 2:20pm: The UK Coastguard has confirmed that they were called to reports of three large cliff falls.

A spokesperson for the UK Coastguard said: "At 11.30am this morning HM Coastguard responded to a 999 call for assistance from a concerned member of the public at Luccombe beach, Isle of Wight, to Initial reports that three large cliff falls had taken place.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor were sent to the area to cordon it off.

"Hampshire Police and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are also attending. The local authority has also been informed"
