FIREFIGHTERS were called to Ryde today (Wednesday) after a telecomms engineer became stuck in a broken-down cherry picker.
The engineer, who was carrying out maintenance on a telephone pole at Playstreet Lane, was left stranded, high in the air, when the cherry picker froze.
A fire engine and aerial ladder unit from Ryde were called to the scene at around 2pm.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to reports of a cherry picker that had become stuck in the 'up' position.
"We were able to release the person from the cab of the picker with the use of a single ladder. The aerial ladder was not required in the end and no one was injured."
