A BEER and live music festival, packed with offerings from local brewers, took over Arreton on Saturday and Sunday in place of the annual Sweetcorn Fayre.

The festival took over when the sweetcorn event was cancelled due to concerns over safety as a result of weather warnings.

The festival kept the same aim — to entertain people and raise money for Beaulieu Respite, which provide services for disabled children and their families, and Way Forward, for people with physical or learning difficulties.

The festival played host to Island acts such as Wight Hot Pipes, Mark Fennel and Friends, Toca Bonito and more.

Alongside a barbecue, pirate entertainment provided by The Wight Pirates and visits from the (sweetcorn) Cob family, the event satisfied hundreds of visitors.

Tony Wake of Beaulieu Respite said: "We were really very lucky that those attending were extremely generous and donated well over £800 for Beaulieu Respite and the Way Forward.

"Both charities have decided to put the money towards fun mainland trips.

"We want to say a huge well done and thank you, which is well-deserved to everyone behind the scenes, the management and staff at Arreton Barns and the wonderful volunteers.

"It was a successful event and fun was had by all those who attended."
