A CHURCH in Whitwell has reported a suspected theft from their grounds on Monday morning.

An unspecified quantity of Island-quarried Stone has gone missing from the site at the church of St Mary and St Rhadegund, having been stationed there as part of ongoing restoration work.

Church warden, Ann Harris, said: "We had a lot of visible new stone which remained completely untouched, but the old stone — despite being more discreetly kept — was targeted and removed from outside of the toilet.

"Please keep an eye out as we believe other things have been taken recently whilst the building work has been carried out; photographs or vehicle registrations would be a great help to the police, who we alerted earlier this week, so that they can catch the culprits."

Anyone who has seen suspicious activity around the churchyard recently can contact Ann directly on 07855060705.
