THE Park of the Dead event has been postponed after organisers discovered a 'serious safety concern' at the Puckpool Park site.

After a structural issue with one of the buildings was discovered, organisers said they had no option but to delay the popular live action horror event until spring.

However, Blackgang Chine has stepped in to offer Park of the Dead ticket holders a discount at its own Halloween horror event.

This year's Park of the Dead event was due to feature zombies roaming around Puckpool Park, providing thrills and spills to horror fans.

However, organisers said: "After many months of writing and planning this year's experience, as we started to carry out rehearsals, a serious safety concern was uncovered in the location of one of the main scenes.

"After seeking advice from professionals, there is nothing that can be done in time to fix the problem before the event starts.

"We sincerely apologise for letting everyone down, and we hope to reschedule The Undead Nightmare for spring, 2020."

A structural issue with one of the buildings was discovered, with the cost of emergency repairs far outweighing expected revenue from the event.

The team plan to carry out more cost-effective repairs over the next couple of months.

Blackgang Chine, which is running a Terror Island event in conjunction with international scare entertainment company, AtmosFEAR, has now offered Park of the Dead ticket holders a 25 per cent discount.

"We’re all horror fanatics over here, and we know the news about Park of the Dead will be devastating to many Halloween lovers," said manager Dominic Wray.

"While our event is very different to Park of the Dead, we want to make sure that everyone has a fantastic scare experience this October, which is why we’re offering Park of the Dead ticket holders an exclusive discount to Terror Island."

Terror Island features three scare attractions, DJ sets, a licensed bar and street food.
