TWO MEN have appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday) charged with five counts of robbery in Ryde.

Ashley Jones, 22, of High Street, Ryde, and Dylan Doughty, 21, of no fixed address, have been charged with the robbery in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Prosecutor Vivian Ducie said: "These matters are so serious they must be sent up to the crown court."

Shortly before 1am on Saturday, it was reported a group of people were robbed at knifepoint at Swanmore Road.

It was reported a 17-year-old boy was assaulted during the incident, and items including a handbag and bank cards were stolen.

Both defendants were were remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on November 25.
