THE 4th annual Esplanade Black Tie Charity Gala was held at Gurnard Pines on Saturday 12 October and welcomed 200 guests.

Fundraising began as soon as guests arrived when they were asked for a donation to guess how many balloons were inside a car parked outside.

Those in attendance were treated to a three-course fine dining experience courtesy of Michelin Star chef Robert Thompson and his team, with table entertainment supplied by illusionist Aaron Isted.

Activities after the meal included dancing at the disco, playing the casino and taking photos at the Magic Mirror. Raffle prizes were generously donated by various Island businesses, and a subsequent auction saw some competitive bidding for a range of items and experiences.

Auction lots on the night were an Isle of Wight Pearl necklace and earring set, a rugby ball signed by England captain Owen Farrell, a box for eight at the Royal Albert Hall, a table for 16 at Thompson’s Restaurant, a gift set and spa treatments for two from BeCalmed, Cowes, and VIP tickets for the British touring car circuit.

All money taken on the night and for ticket sales was given to three supported charities, with Esplanade covering all costs associated with the running of the event and Robert Thompson generously supplying all food and his staff.

Event coordinator, Gemma Swain, said: “I would like to give special thanks to Robert Thompson and his team, and the waiting staff supplied by Ryde School, as well as a huge thank you to the events team at Gurnard Pines who are so accommodating, and donated £500 from the evening’s bar takings to the cause.

“We are extremely proud to announce that the total raised this year is £22,000, which will be divided equally between The Isle of Wight Sports Foundation, Kissy Puppy and UKSA’s Test the Water programme.

“We will shortly begin planning next year’s event and believe that based on this year it will be a sell-out.”

In total Esplanade’s Charity Galas have now raised £67,470 for Isle of Wight charities over the last four years.
