FORMER Isle of Wight County Press paper boy, Gary Rowett, has been named as the new manager of Championship club, Millwall.

The 45-year-old — who hails from Cowes — is the former boss of Burton Albion, Birmingham City, Derby County and Stoke City, and succeeds Neil Harris, who resigned on October 3.

Rowett, who was famously a paperboy on the Island when he was aged 15, delivering the County Press, studied at Cowes High School and played for Gurnard Youth as a teenager.

His dad, Eric, worked at the former Camp Hill site, now HMP Isle of Wight.

Gary takes over with Millwall sitting 17th in the table — five points clear of the relegation zone.

Gary has not had a managerial job since being sacked by Stoke in January when they were 14th in the Championship — eight points shy of a play-off place.

Poetically, Rowett's first game in charge will be on Saturday, when his former side Stoke visit The Den.
