EAST Cowes Vics Football Club have made Richie Woodburn their new first team boss.

The club said it had received a number applications of an extremely high calibre, before choosing the former Cowes Sports chief.

Woodburn famously got the Yachtsmen promoted from Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League to the Premier Division in 2015, but the club parted company with him in April 2017 following a string of poor results.

He inherits a side languishing second bottom of Division 1, with only one win notched up so far this season.

In a statement by East Cowes Vics, it read: "Following interviews with the chosen candidates, the club deliberated for some time over who would be the best manager to take the club forward, bearing in mind where we are currently situated in the league.

"The club look forward to welcoming and working alongside Richie."

Woodburn's first game in charge will be their away game at Fawley on Saturday.
