A LOFT ladder was stolen from Ryde's Royal British Legion — while it was put outside to make room for more people on Remembrance Sunday.

The ladder was put outside in case it caused a trip hazard on such a busy day, but when staff went to retrieve it at the end of the day it was gone.

They have reported the crime to the police.

Carol Gandy of Ryde RBL said: "It was a 20ft long aluminium loft ladder so it would not be easy to make off with.

"It is a bit disappointing given what day it was and what we were doing.

"It seems people will take anything worth anything these days."

Anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of the ladder should call the Police on 101 and state crime number 44190404137 or phone Ryde RBL on 613302.

UPDATE, December 9: The ladder has been put back. A spokesperson for the RBL said: "Thanks to the power of the press, maybe someone felt guilty. Thanks to everyone who offered us a ladder."
