A MOTHER whose little girl was tragically murdered has purchased a puppy for Ability Dogs 4 Young People.

Nikki Flux-Edmonds lost daughter Keziah in 2016, when the six-year-old was killed by her father, who also took the life of the family dog then himself too.

Nikki had an emotional first meeting with the puppy on Wednesday and was delighted to name her Kezi.

She said: "I will only see the puppy occasionally after today as it's too emotional.

"I absolutely loved today. Kezi is a beautiful, fun and friendly puppy, so has some of my Keziah's personality traits.

"I felt so proud of her. It feels so good, knowing someone calls my daughter's name every day.

"I can't wait to see who she becomes and who gets to love her."

Nikki bought the dog to commemorate what would have been Keziah's tenth birthday.

She said: "I chose this charity because my Keziah loved dogs passionately, and Island young people are very important.

"I thought it would be wonderful for her name to live on doing something special for another young person.

"I love the thought that someone will love and appreciate Kezi as much as I did my Keziah."

Kezi is the charity’s fifth new puppy for 2019.

She is a yellow Labrador and is just 13 weeks old.

Carol Court, charity founder said: "Nikki gave the generous donation of £1,203 on Keziah’s birthday to mark the number of days since Keziah was tragically killed.

"Kezi joins the other Ability Dog puppies in training including Trevor, Bonnie, Dylan and Pippa.

“Kezi is with Joan, the charity's first puppy parent, so she is in good hands and making very good progress with her initial training."

Ability Dogs 4 Young People is an Island charity which trains assistance dogs to improve the lives of physically and mentally disabled young people and children.
