Mike Voisey, head coach of Newport Phoenix, said: "We wanted to get amateur boxing competitions back on the Island and we wanted between 12 and 15 bouts to make it a decent event.

"Our boxers have been training hard for this show, so it would be nice for them if friends, family and Island boxing fans came along to support these young boxers when they compete against mainland opposition.

"It should be a great night's boxing."

Professional boxer, Chez Nihell, who began to learn boxing at Newport Phoenix as a boy, aims to travel from Aldershot to support the event.

Doors open 6.30pm. First bell 7pm.

Tickets from Medina Theatre box office on 823884 or on the door.
