AN ISLE of Wight singer-songwriter has been gaining traction both on and off the Island, following the release of a haunting single.
Spike Oatley's second digitally-released solo single, Why Am I A Ghost?, was recorded at Studio Humbug in East Cowes in conjunction with production duo Boe Weaver.
The track provides a brooding follow-up to debut track Gods Hill, and received a positive review from Music Interview Magazine.
Bursting with authentic pop flavour, the track was recorded over a couple of days in the converted water tower, with the addition of brothers Tim and Andy Parkin — formerly of The Bees and 77:78 — providing a provocative brass augmentation.
Spike said: "Why Am I A Ghost? harks back to a time when pop was singer-songwriter driven. Imagine Tom Petty having a conversation with The Eagles whispered through an ELO filtered megaphone.
"Whether you’re curled up on a winter night in front of an open fire or partying in a field drinking cider on a summer day, Why Am I A Ghost? fits the scene perfectly."
Why Am I A Ghost? is available on all major online sites and streaming platforms.
