SPECIALIST rope equipment has been used to rescue a dog that fell over the edge of the cliff.

Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams worked together to ensure the safe rescue of the dog, thought to be a Labrador, at Ventnor between Steephill Cove and Orchard Bay.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said the dog had gone through a hole in a fence before getting into difficulty.

It was reunited with its owner at around 2pm.

The rescue follows a series of similar incidents dealt with by the coastguard teams.

A dog died yesterday after going over the cliff at Whale Chine.
