COASTGUARD and lifeboats teams are searching Wootton Creek this lunchtime (Monday), after receiving a Mayday call.

The Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Cowes RNLI were called to the scene shortly after 11am.

A UK Coastguard spokesperson said: "We cannot confirm the Mayday call came from Wootton Creek itself, but it was that area.

"We currently have teams searching the area and the banks of the river.

"Efforts are still ongoing."

UPDATE 2.45pm: Rescue crews have been stood down.

A spokesperson for the UK Coastguard said: "After a search of the area, nothing untoward was found.

"We are keeping the incident open, but search teams were stood down at around 1pm."
