A DRUG driver who was caught with cocaine and MDMA in her blood has been banned from the roads.

Marie Hutchings, 33, of Fraser Close, Cowes, admitted two counts of drug driving, and a further count of driving without insurance, when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The court heard she was stopped at St Georges Way, Newport, on September 17 when the car was flagged as uninsured.

She was taken to Newport police station, where a drug test revealed she had 62mg of cocaine and 61mg of MDMA in her blood.

Keith Verrinder, defending, said: "Her cousin was in the passenger seat at the time. It was his car, and she had taken him at his word that she was insured on it.

"It's worth noting that unlawful substances will stay in the bloodstream for some time after they have been consumed.

"She tells me that a couple of weeks prior to this incident she had been to a festival, where she had consumed the drugs, and believed she would have been fine to drive."

Hutchings was given a 12-month community order, with 20 rehabilitation requirement days.

She was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay an £80 fine, court costs of £40 and a surcharge of £90.
