FIREFIGHTERS are working to free two people from an overturned car this afternoon (Friday).

The car came off the road at Cedar Drive, Shanklin, and rolled onto its side, trapping the occupants.

Emergency crews were called to scene at 4.13pm.

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We are currently working to free two people trapped inside the car.

"We have sent one crew from Ryde, one from Shanklin and a third from Ryde is on its way.

"Crews remain on the scene."

UPDATE 5.33pm: An Isle of Wight Ambulance Service spokesperson said both casualties had been taken to St Mary's Hospital for treatment.
