A BADGER was electrocuted as it crossed the train tracks at Sandown this morning (Monday).

Shanklin firefighters were called to the railway station shortly before 8am after the alarm was raised by a member of the public, who saw smoke coming from the tracks.

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The deceased badger was found on the live rail. No action was needed on our part.

"We liaised with the railway station team and left it with them."
