FLOOD alerts and weather warnings remain in place across the Isle of Wight today (Monday).

Following Storm Ciara, a yellow weather warning for wind remains in place from 10am to 7pm today.

The Met Office said a swathe of very strong winds was expected to move across the south, causing travel delays and dangerous conditions along the coast.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast — advising people to prepare for flooding an hour either side of high tide, at 11.37am — and a more serious flood warning for Cowes, East Cowes and Newport.

It urged people to take immediate action, and warned a number of properties — including those at Medina Road, the Arcade and Cowes High Street, in Cowes, the Esplanade, the Parade, Albany Road, York Avenue, Castle Street and Well Road, in East Cowes, and Newport Quay — were at risk of flooding.

People have been urged to take flood protection measures and move their cars from seafront car parks.
