THE Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary will remain closed today (Monday), following a battering by Storm Ciara.

Staff at the Wroxall sanctuary have been busy fixing broken signs, fences and gates, and clearing up debris.

Online fundraising manager David Hayles said: "Due to the extreme weather today, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary has taken the decision to remain closed again. This will allow us to clear up all the damage and debris.

"We have broken gates, signage and fencing, so we shall need 24 hours to make the site safe for the public again."

"A huge thank you to our equine manager, Sandra, and all her farm staff, for looking after the donkeys in dangerous conditions and making sure they are safe, fed and watered."

The sanctuary is due to reopen at 10am tomorrow (Tuesday).
