A UNIQUE and exciting partnership between the County Press and Real Madrid will open up greater opportunities for Island youngsters to realise their dream of playing football at the world-famous Bernabeu Stadium.

In a historic move for the newspaper, the deal with the Spanish giants will mean two children — boys or girls, aged between seven and 16 years — who excel at the annual Real Madrid youth academy camp on the Island will be guaranteed the opportunity to spend a superb weekend in the Spanish capital.

In the two years the academy has run its five-day training camps, it has rapidly filled its 102-child quota.

The first year saw Charlie Hart, aged 12 at the time, earn his passage to the Bernabeu, with Mark Robertson, 15, the second, who will fly out to Spain this summer, to spend a day training at one of the world’s best sporting complexes on the planet — the Cuidad Madrid — then become a budding Galactico and play in a match in Real Madrid’s iconic Bernabeu stadium.

This summer’s camp at the IW Community Club, Cowes, will be held between August 24 and 28.

Supported by six academy coaches, the children will be taken through the most advanced training regime they could imagine, which will include eating nutritional meals.

Island-based sports coach, Paul Marshall, of the Fundacion Real Madrid Clinics, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have the County Press on board, giving another Island child a dream.”
