When Arreton St George's Primary School pupils heard about the Australian bush fires they wanted to help.

Reception and KS1 performed Eddie the Penguin saves the World at Medina Theatre and the money raised from programmes started the Bush Fire fund.

This was followed by a whole school mufti day, a sponsored kangaroo bounce by the Reception class and a sponsored scoot by Year 2 children.

Altogether the children managed to raise £1,500.

Head of school Maria Herbert said: “The suffering of the animals really touched the children and they were determined to help. We are really proud of the total they managed to raise.”

The money will be donated to the World Wildlife Bush Fire Appeal.
