HSBC Bank, which has branches in Ryde and Newport, has said it is to axe 35,000 jobs worldwide.

After the bank posted poor trading results, it said it would reduce its global employee count from 235,000 to around 200,000.

It is not known how the Isle of Wight branches will be affected.

Profits of the banking giant fell by nearly a third to £10.3 billion in 2019, and it is now seeking £3.5 billion in savings.
