BEMBRIDGE Coastguard Rescue Team was called to investigate reports of palm oil in Ryde this morning (Wednesday).

At 6.28am, the coastguard team arrived at the scene, after palm oil was reported washed ashore at Puckpool Beach.

A search was conducted from Seaview to Ryde.

A spokesperson for Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team said: "This type of pollutant can be extremely dangerous to dogs, and we would like to warn anyone walking their dogs in the area."

UPDATE 8pm: The Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Facebook page has posted that despite earlier reports, upon investigation no palm oil was found at Puckpool beach.

There were a number of whelk egg cases that may have been mistaken for the pollutant.
