POLICE were tipped off that indecent images of children were being uploaded to a Ryde computer — and an investigation led them to Trevor Mitchell of Arundel Road.

Mitchell, 58, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children between June 2009 and February 2018 when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ann Smout said police were tipped off that images of children were being uploaded to the internet from a Ryde IP address.

She said: "When police raided his home they found 27 category A images, 41 category B images, and 43 category C images of children.

"There was evidence he had been uploading some of these images online. He had peer-to-peer sharing software on his computer and his search history was consistent with searches for material relating to children and pre-teens.

"In some of the images, children as young as eight or nine years can be seen.

"This should go to the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing."

Henry Farley, for Mitchell, said: "He made full admissions in interview. He admitted he had developed an interest in pornography, and in the course of trawling the web these images appeared on his computer."

The case has been sent to the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on March 27.
