TWO films starring Academy Award winners feature in a packed-out arthouse programme this week.

Tonight (Friday), Christ Church, Sandown, is screening comedy-adventure, The Secret Life of Pets 2, at 6.30pm.

The film continues the story of Max and his pet friends, following their secret lives when their owners leave them for work or school each day.

On Tuesday, Ventnor Art Club is showing Todd Phillips' Joker, starring Academy Award winner, Joaquin Phoenix, at 7.30pm.

The gritty character study tells the origin story of Batman's iconic arch nemesis — a tortured man struggling to find his way in Gotham City's fractured society.

A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic by night, only to find the joke always seems to be on him.

On Wednesday, both Ventnor Arts Club and Friends of Freshwater Library are screening Rupert Goold's Judy, at 7.30pm.

Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger stars as showbiz legend Judy Garland as she arrives in swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town.

Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice and the sheer pizzazz of 'the world's greatest entertainer'.

On Thursday, Ventnor Arts Club is screening biographic, Mr Jones, starring James Norton, at 7.30pm.

The film follows the story of ambitious Welsh journalist, Gareth Jones, who gained fame after his report on being the first foreign journalist to fly with Hitler.
