VENTNOR Theatre Group is preparing to razzle dazzle its audiences with the upcoming show Chicago.

The musical is being staged by the same creative team that put on Cats in 2018, and will be on at Ventnor Winter Gardens in May.

Jesse Rann will play the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly, with Bryony Davies as wannabe star and fellow cell block inmate Roxie Hart.

Chicago is a satirical look at fame, justice, and the media machine — and Ventnor Theatre Group is delighted to bring it to the Isle of Wight for the first time in around 30 years.

Set in the Windy City in the 1920s, Chicago is based on real-life murders and follows the story of the two women as they languish in Cook County Jail.

When they both acquire the same greedy superstar lawyer, Billy Flynn, played by Steve Jones, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight, battling for the flashbulb of the newspaper reporters.

With catchy music and timeless songs such as All That Jazz and Cell Block Tango, Chicago is a musical spectacular.

With four performances between May 8 to 10, including two matinees, the show will see a live orchestra under the supervision of musical director, Donna Brihmani, supporting a cast of 32 local performers.
