A DRIVER has fled the scene after crashing a car at Smallbrook.

Police have closed Smallbrook Lane and are still in attendance.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Police said: "We were called at 4.46pm to reports of a collision on Smallbrook Lane.

"A Ford S-Max Titanium was found to be on its roof, the driver was not on scene.

"Police are still in attendance and this is ongoing at this time."

More to follow.

UPDATE:

Police released a photo from the scene and said: "You may already be aware but Smallbrook Lane in Ryde is currently closed whilst we deal with a car on its roof.

"Our colleagues from Bartletts are on scene and helping us to get the road reopened.

"We have already seen the questions around whether the journey the driver was making was essential.

"We are not in a position to answer that at the moment, but the driver of the vehicle is assisting us with our enquires in relation both to the manner of their driving and other road traffic offences.

"Please can I ask that any speculative comments are not posted. Thank you."
