FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning about lighting fire in the open — especially during this time of crisis.

Following a call-out this afternoon, Freshwater Fire Station said it was "playing with people's lives" to light "foolish" fires outside.

They said on Twitter: "We urge you not to light fires outdoors, you are playing with people's lives and it is foolish and wrong.

"Please follow the government guidance and stay home and help keep everyone safe."

The fire took place in the woods off School Green Lane, Freshwater.

A spokesperson for the IW Fire and Rescue Service said: "Please follow the advice. Stay at home.

"Do not put unnecessary demand on the emergency services during this time of national emergency.

"Parents...do you know where your children are?"
