SANDOWN Bay community celebration, Hullabaloo, will go ahead across the weekend of June 20 and 21, albeit with a twist.

With the event unable to accommodate its usual gathering of around 12,000 people, it will present a cluster of live feeds to provide a variety of entertaining and educational fare.

Hullabaloo — organised by Shademakers Carnival Club — combines science, nature, art, live music, madcap carnival and seaside tradition.

The general public is also invited to explore their own creativity during the weekend to help contribute to the festivities.

Ian Boyd is one of a number of Island residents involved with the project, and a member Sandown non-profit organisation The Common Space, which manages and creates public spaces.

He said: "Hullabaloo at Home will bring everything to you but also give you plenty of opportunity to join in from the moment we go live right up to weekend itself.

"Don’t forget Biosphere Day on Friday, June 19, when we will be celebrating the first anniversary of the award of World Biosphere Reserve status to the isle of Wight. There’s loads to look forward to and we can’t wait to let loose."

Sharon George, artistic director at Hullabaloo, said: “Despite Coronavirus limiting our collective landscapes, Hullabaloo is all about creating opportunities to discover and explore our local environment and this year is no different.

"We hope to help to grow our community countrywide and bring the Sandown Bay spectacular to homes everywhere. So let’s celebrate together and create moments that matter."

Hullabaloo at Home launches as the Island celebrates its first birthday as an UNESCO biosphere reserve.
