THE Isle of Wight once again showed its support for the NHS, with thousands heading outside to clap, share music, and celebrate the tireless efforts of medical workers at this difficult time.

Residents responded to the second nationwide Clap for our Carers movement at 8pm tonight (Thursday), with numbers increasing significantly from the inaugural turnout.

Tonight's applause honoured Islanders who continue to work to make sure the local community can function, and paid homage those saving lives and treating people who have contracted coronavirus.

Despite being conducted within the framework of social distancing, the connection offered a release to people isolated from their communities.

The entire nation has been getting behind the cause, uniting people who may not have become acquainted under normal circumstances.

The inaugural Clap for our Carers evening took place around the UK at 8pm the previous Thursday, and looks set to become a welcome weekly fixture while the virus is combated by brave local medical teams.
