A SANDOWN couple had a quiet celebration — just the two of them —to mark their 60th wedding anniversary last week.

But Georgina and Conrad Kirvan are looking forward to a bigger family event to mark the diamond occasion later in the year.

The couple met in 1956 at a local function in Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex.

After a three to four year courtship, they tied the knot at St Dunstan's Church, Lower Feltham, Middlesex, on April 2, 1960.

They had two children, a boy and a girl, and lived in Hillingdon Heath, Middlesex for more than 30 years.

Mr Kirvan worked at E.M.I. Radar for some years before moving to Imhof-Bedco, where he ended his working career as chief estimating engineer.

Mrs Kirvan qualified as a nursery nurse and worked at the local primary school.

They retired to Sandown in 1999, and since then have been active members of local clubs, St John's Church and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
