A DIAMOND wedding anniversary was celebrated in style thanks to help from West Wight Help Centre.

Eileen and Ben Elston, of Freshwater, had to cancel their family party due to coronavirus.

But enquiries made by their mainland-based family led to a community effort, with the help centre organising a slap-up treat, cooked by Michele Newton of Four Seasons Cookery Academy.

It was delivered to their door on March 31, celebrating 60 years of marriage.

The main course was baked salmon parcels served with fresh vegetables, sautéed potatoes and a light cheese and prawn sauce.

This was followed by chocolate sponge with cream and strawberries, plus a rich chocolate cake for afternoon tea, which is a favourite of the couple.

Michele, who is preparing delicious, nutritious takeaway meals at the centre daily, said: "Our community is at the heart of everything we do, so hearing of a couple celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary, we hatched a plan.

"We hope they enjoyed their special meal.”

The meals are available hot or chilled and delivery can be arranged.
