A SANDOWN man who assaulted three police officers has been jailed.

Stefan Lord, 30, of Winchester Close, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court today (Monday).

He was charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker and two counts of criminal damage.

A spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police said: "Lord assaulted three police officers, two by coughing in their faces whilst claiming to have COVID-19, and the third by trying to bite the officer on the leg whilst in custody.

"He then went on to conduct a dirty protest in his cell resulting in myself and other officers negotiating with him and achieving a cleaner objective."

He was handed a six month custodial sentence.
