THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus on the Isle of Wight now stands at 194, according to today's (Sunday's) figures.

New testing facilities have been rolled out on the Island in recent weeks, both at Medina Leisure Centre car park in Newport and via a doorstep delivery and collection scheme, as part of the trial of the coronavirus test and trace app.

Most recent figures from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust show that 35 people hospitalised on the Island have since recovered and been discharged.

In all, 36 people on the Isle of Wight have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

Across the UK 36,793 people have died of coronavirus since the pandemic started with a rise of 118 deaths, which the government says shows a 'downward trend'.

The national rise in deaths is the lowest number for May so far, though figures are often smaller at the weekend due to the way deaths are reported.
