A NEW restaurant selling quality food is to open in Yarmouth following a delay due to Covid-19.

The Terrace, formerly Yarmouth Spice, will open on Tuesday, June 2, initially serving takeaways.

The restaurant is owned by Phil Keen who ran High Adventure Hang-gliding and Paragliding Centre and was a former Yarmouth Harbour Commissioner.

Phil will be joined by Jon-Paul Charlo, former head chef of The Royal Hotel, Ventnor, and Holly Cameron as restaurant manager.

Phil said: "It's not my first time in the restaurant business. Many years ago I ran Sands Restaurant in the former Sandpipers Hotel, Freshwater Bay.

"I originally got involved in The Terrace with the encouragement of William Bailey of The Royal and he has now decided to concentrate on the hotel and is not part of this venture.

"We were hoping to open on Good Friday, but then our plans were put on hold because of coronavirus, however we can't wait to get started now our refurbishment is complete."

Jon-Paul said: "We will be using top quality ingredients with mostly local suppliers and it will all be free range and organic.

"There will be a lot of fish on the menu like lobster and crab salads and mussels as well as our special Terrace Burger.

"But we will see how the takeaway service develops and take on board any feedback from customers."

Phil said: "Our position on top of the Wightlink offices gives us one of the best views on the Island and we hope this will make for a special ambience when we eventually open full-time."
