TWO Isle of Wight photographers with flourishing portfolios have been nominated for a prize at the prestigious Landscape Photographer of the Year (LPOTY) awards in October.

Sienna Anderson captured the essence of Newport's Watchbell Lane during a cold winter evening, with the haunting image in contention for a share of the total prize fund in excess of £20,000.

Sienna said: "On a cold winter's night this scene from Watchbell Lane could be straight from a Dickens novel, I am proud it has been shortlisted in Landscape Photographer of the Year."

This is not the first time Sienna's work has received national recognition, following success at the Bird Photographer of the Year awards in 2018 and a place on the shortlist for last year's British Photography Awards in London.

Sienna is not the only Isle of Wight based snapper to make the shortlist, with Ainsley Bennett receiving confirmation earlier today that he also made the final cut.

He said: "My image, entitled Fields of Gold, depicts the summer Milky Way over a golden field of wheat near Chale.

"I remember standing on the footpath with the night so still, without a breath of wind, and listening to the nocturnal sounds."

Ainsley will feature in the Your View category, while Sienna will be hoping to win the Urban section.

LPOTY organisers have been calling together photographers from all walks of life to celebrate their personal visions of United Kingdom landscapes.

The competition was founded in 2006 by Charlie Waite, one of today’s most respected landscape photographers.

With a total prize fund worth over £20,000, a full colour book of best entries and popular annual exhibition in central London, LPOTY showcases the work of many talented photographers through the medium of Britain’s heritage.

Award winners in all categories will be announced on October 18.
