VENTNOR Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Sandown yesterday evening (Saturday) ­— after a person jumped off a pier.

At 7.26pm, the team were tasked to a report of a person who had jumped off Sandown Pier.

A spokesperson for Ventnor coastguard said: "Fortunately, the casualty was able to swim ashore unharmed, safe and well.

"Don’t take risks by jumping into the sea.

"You don’t know the depth and what may be underneath the surface."

The team were also tasked to investigate a raft found at Rocken End Beach, Blackgang.

Details were taken and passed on to Solent Coastguard for further investigation.

The item was removed to prevent further calls.
