A TEENAGE pedestrian has suffered a head injury following a road traffic accident in Lake.

The main road between Sandown and Shanklin is currently closed while emergency services are at the scene.

An Isle of Wight Police spokesperson confirmed: "We were called at 12.54pm with reports of a collision on Lake Bridge, Sandown Road.

"A Volkswagen Polo and a pedestrian collided. The pedestrian, a 16-year-old boy, has suffered a head injury. The incident is ongoing."

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has been in attendance.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and diversions are in place.

UPDATE 3.25pm: Although the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance did attend the incident, the patient has been transferred to a mainland hospital by land ambulance via the ferry.
