SOME popular Isle of Wight pubs have announced they will not re-open this year.

Many pubs are updating their websites and social media pages with details of how they are opening, with most re-opening on July 4.

Some have decided not to open their doors at all, and others are serving drinks but not food.

The Yachtsman, prominently situated on the seafront in Cowes, announced: "It’s with a heavy heart that we can confirm that The Yachtsman won’t be re-opening this year.

"With Cowes Week and so many other regattas understandably cancelled this summer we just don’t feel the economic climate is right.

"We’ll be back in 2021 when hopefully things will be back to some form of normality. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and wish you all a safe and healthy 2020."

The Bugle in Brading said it won't be opening until Easter 2021, due to indoor play areas not being allowed.

It did say the bar will be open, serving limited hours. The County Press has contacted them, for clarity.

The statement said: "It's with a heavy heart that we can confirm that despite our best efforts to re-open The Bugle it won't be happening this year.

"Note — the bar will be open serving limited hours.

"Having read the governments guidelines indoor play areas aren't allowed to be used. This was a key component of re-launching the Bugle into a real family friendly venue with great food and kids facilities.

"The tens of thousands of pounds of investment remain redundant which is beyond frustrating for us all. That said, all the work has been done so we're ready to go next year.

"We can assure you that come Easter next year The Bugle Inn will be re-opening better than ever. We just have to be patient.

"The staff we took on to work at The Bugle have been relocated to our sister sites so everyone still has jobs.

"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we're as disappointed as you are."

The King's Head in Yarmouth is delaying its opening.

A statement said: "Having now reviewed the governments guidelines and how this potentially affects the pubs operations we have taken the decision to hold off opening for the time being.

"There are just so many uncertainties and more questions than answers unfortunately.

"Our intention is to re-open our sister pub, The Bugle Coaching Inn, as it has a much larger capacity and garden space.

"Subject to how this pans out, ie will the trade actually be there, we will review whether we re-open The Kings Head this summer.

"We will be reviewing this daily and if we feel the conditions are right was can assure you we will re-open sooner rather than later.

"This has been a really tough decision to make, particularly after investing so much into the site to give it a brighter future.

"We will of course keep you updated as and when we have more news for you.

"We apologise for any disappointment this may cause but rest assured when the time’s right, we’ll be back."

As reported yesterday, The Little Gloster on Gurnard seafront is closing its doors in September.

The owners, Ben and Holly Cooke, said: "We have made the hard decision as a family, that after an incredible ten years in Gurnard, The Little Gloster ‘Restaurant and Rooms’ will be closing at the end of September and that our last 'at home' dishes (have been) delivered."

The Crown Inn in Shorwell is opening for drinks only.

The team said: "Having now fully reviewed the governments guidelines relating to Covid-19 we have taken the difficult decision not to open The Crown for food this year.

"The restrictions required in such a small building make any viability nearly impossible,

"We will keep the bar open from July 4 trading restricted hours so the village still has a pub.

"This has been an extremely difficult decision to make but ultimately we’ve been left with no choice.

"We thank you for your understanding and wish you a safe and healthy 2020."

The Old Comical in Sandown has said no children or those aged under 25 when they first re-open.
