Pilot Andrew Millorit has shared his image with the Isle of Wight County Press.

It was taken at sunrise, midway across the Atlantic ocean, as he flew over the Azores.

The comet was discovered in March and is due to make its closest path to earth on July 23.

It is visible in our skies now. Look northwest (below, and to the right, of the constellation known as The Plough).

Here it is over the Cowes area last night (Sunday).

From an aeroplane flightdeck, it made an incredible shot.

Andrew told the County Press:

"It is always a wonderful experience to see such rare things.  They tend to punctuate those minutes of your life. I think comets take you back to childhood when you truly marvelled at such things. It just leaves you wondering where its journey started and where it will end."

Amateur stargazers may be able to see the comet in the sky over the next few days.
