A CAFE acclaimed for its friendly atmosphere and vibrant decor has appealed to customers to help — and has raised £3,000 already through its 'superheroes' scheme.

Newport's ComiCoffee opened its doors in Pyle Street in June 2018, with the aim of putting a twist on the traditional coffee shop with a comic book themed menu and interior design.

A little over two years later, the business has been affected by the coronavirus induced closure.

In an attempt to keep the cafe running, the team at ComiCoffee have set up a Crowdfunder in the hope of enabling the business to continue operating.

A spokesperson said: "Like so many businesses around the world, the years of blood, sweat and tears have been wiped out nearly overnight by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The community hub we have is something we hope to enjoy again in the near future.

"We want to ensure our incredible team have jobs to return to, as they have put so much into creating the atmosphere we have at Comicoffee.

"Those people make it such a special place, not just a coffee house, but somewhere for everyone to enjoy."

The first £5,000 of money pledged will be match-funded by Solent LEP though their Pay it Forward scheme. To date more than £3,000 of the £10,000 target has been raised.

To recognise those who have been able to help — whether financially or through practical support — ComiCoffee will be placing their names on its new range of merchandise to acknowledge them as 'Comicoffee superheroes.'

The gesture will symbolise a lasting thank you to those who have played their part in keeping the enterprise afloat. In addition, all names will be placed on the ComiCoffee website and social media accounts.
