A SWEET-TOOTHED Isle of Wight enterprise has raised money to support one of the local community's most revered rodents.

The Isle of Wight Biscuit Company has been supporting the iconic red squirrel since the 1990s, and recently donated a cheque for £500 to the IW Red Squirrel Trust.

Money is raised each time a box of squirrel shaped biscuits is sold, with a donation given to support either the Wight Squirrel Project or — as on this occasion —the Red Squirrel Trust.

The Wight Squirrel Project monitors red squirrels, taking in sick, injured or baby reds, while the IW Red Squirrel Trust is in charge of education.

The Island’s leading red squirrel expert and charity founder, Helen Butler MBE, said: "I am grateful to Isle of Wight Biscuits for the donation, we cannot manage without Island people and businesses supporting us.

"We would like to work with more businesses if possible."

The IW Red Squirrel Trust has a kitemark of approval for businesses that support the charity.

Companies interested in offering support will receive the kitemark plus a listing on the Trust's website and Facebook page.
