AN ARTISTIC Covid-19 initiative has been attracting widespread support from its local community in Wootton and beyond.

Care in the Garden — an independent not-for-profit social enterprise located at Palmer's Brook Nursery in Park Road — has launched Operation Geranium in association with Age UK.

The movement aims for 5,000 postcards, which are available in three designs, to be sent from the Isle of Wight this summer in an effort to make people feel more connected to their families, friends and loved ones.

A spokesperson for Care in the Garden said: "With just one hospital on the Island and a number of elderly folk to take care of, we really needed the help and support Age UK staff and volunteer shoppers.

"Staff, volunteers, support workers and customers are asking for your help to send our 5,000 postcards from the Isle of Wight on behalf of all of the people who stayed home to protect the NHS."

Care In The Garden has also donated 100s of potted geranium plants for delivery to the doorsteps of elderly Island residents as part of Operation Geranium.
