AN UNRESPONSIVE casualty was rescued from thick undergrowth in Totland Bay yesterday (Monday) evening.

Due to the difficulty of getting to the casualty, it involved a huge multi-agency response, after the initial call came in at around 7.15pm.

HM Coastguard sent Needles and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, with Needles carrying out a rope rescue on a 55 degree incline.

Also in attendance was the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Isle of Wight Police, and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

The casualty was rescued from thick undergrowth just beyond the sea wall and taken to St Mary’s Hospital.

A spokesperson for Freshwater Fire Station said: "Team work amongst all our emergency services colleagues at its best."
