SIX children were rescued from the sea by Ryde Beach lifeguards within a few hours yesterday afternoon.

A warning was issued by the rescuers, reminding people to only swim between the red and yellow flags and not by the harbour area.

Two children were rescued after drifting out to sea, and four teenagers were helped ashore after becoming stuck in a rip current at Ryde Harbour.

Additionally, HM Coastguard was called by a member of the public who spotted youngsters jumping off Ryde Pier.

Ryde Town Council is working with Waterside Community Trust to provide the beach lifeguards this summer.
