SUSPECTED ordnance at Seaview was found not to be the case.
Quay Rocks Beach was cordoned off by police last night, and the safety zone was later further widened for public protection.
The Royal Navy bomb disposal team from Portsmouth arrived this morning an removed the item from the water for inspection.
However, the object was deemed not to be ordnance and will be disposed of.
